Aureolus
Rebel in Milan AD 267 - 268
Aureolus served as comander of Gallienus' cavalry corps and crash the revolt of the Macriani. While Gallienus was away in the Balkans defeating the Goths, Aureolus rebelled and declared his loyalty to Postumus. Gallienus rushed back to Italy and defeated Aureolus in the battle in the Po Valley. Aureolus then retrieted to Milan and there was declared Augustus. Gallienus was killed by his key staff officer - all friends of Aureolus. When Claudius II became emperor in August of AD 268, he ordered immediately Aureolus' execution.
Aureolus strike antoniniani in Milam with the portrait oand under the name of Postumus. The gold coinage is doubtful.
