Help with Identification of this medallion
I have what I believe to be a medallion of some sort that I have had for many years (45 or so?). I don't recall when or where I got it, but it has been in my accumulation for a long, long time. The coin or medallion is about 7/8" diameter, and appears to be made of a copper or brass colored metal. I have attached photos of the front and back of the item.
As you can see, what appears to be the front (obverse) of the item has a woman, and the words "Victoria Regina 1847." The reverse has a man and the words "Louis Philippe I Roi Des Francais." There are no initials or other wording anywhere on the item. The heads of both figures are up in the same direction, not upside down to each other as on our U.S. Coins. The edge is smooth, no lettering.
Searches on the internet have found a "July Monarch" born 6 Oct 1773, died 26 Aug 1850, King of France 1830 to 1848. Some have conjectured that he might be the male image on this item, and that this is some sort of a commemorative medallion. Why the two images appear on the same item, I don't know. No information has been searched for the female figure. Any assistance would be appreciated.
