Here is the first of two mystery Roman coins for tonight. Great battle scene on the reverse, and you would think I should be able to make out the text to do a proper search.

Regards and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hello Kim!
Unfortunately too many ifs here :-(
The obverse legend DN CONSTAN... may be CONSTATINVS; CONSTANTIVS; CONSTANS but because of the portrait characteristics It can be only Cinstantius II or Constans . Constantius Gallus is with bareheaded bust, so it is not an option here.
The reverse type is clear "fallen horseman". This type is used by both, so it will not help. I can not recognize the mint mark - left field and exergue – so this will not help a lot. Anyway since there is letter in the left field, and the compose mint mark for this type is not used by Constans, I will say that this is Constantius II. I don’t know the size, but because of the proportions I think that this is AE 3 (12 – 15 mm) and the description could be:

Constantius II AD 324-361 AE3 "Fallen Horseman"
Constantius II AD 324-361 AE3 "These are the good times"
Obv: DN CONSTAN[TIVS P F AVG] – Pearl diademed bust right, draped and cuirassed
Rev: FEL TEMP REPARATIO - Soldier right and looking left, spears a fallen horseman.
Mint mark: M(?) | […]

It is not a lot, but … :-(

Vladimir -

It may not seem like alot to you but it helps me out quite a bit.

Also I should have told you that the coin measures 16mm in diameter and weighs exactly 1.8 grams. I will try and include the size and weight of all future "mystery" coin photos that I submit to make your job a little easier.

A million thanks again!

Kim
