Here is the first of two mystery coins for tonight.

Looks to me to be a Philip I (Philip The Arab). Am I close?

Regards!

:) Hi Kim - BTW your photos are EXCELLENT!!! I don't think it's Phillip I because the beard is all wrong. Phillip I is portayed w/ a neat, closely-cropped beard in every example I could find on WW. I'm sure Vlad. will let us know. I'm certainly no expert! :D

Adventus -

Thanks for the compliment on my photos, I do appreciate it.

You are more of an expert than I am on identifying Roman coins but I will wait for a reply from Vladimir on this one. He's pretty hard, maybe impossible, to stump. I am anxious to see what he says.

Regards!

Kim

Hi Kim!
This one is:
Victorinus AD 269 – 271 AE Antoninianus “Virtvs”
Obv: IMP C VICTORINVS P F AVG – Radiate, cuirassed bust right.
Rev: VIRTVS AVG – Soldier standing right, holding spear and resting left hand on a shield.
Southern mint AD 269-271 = RIC Vii, p. 393, 78; Cohen 131.

The lettering under the soldier are not part of the exergue, but actually part of the obverse legend “NVS P F” if you rotate the image on 180 degree you will see it clearly.
Hope this helps.
Vl.
