I can't identify this coin, anyone out there that could help me?

I have an old coin that was given to me it dates 1788 with a V on the front with an O and C in the middle of the V, the back has a crest or crown with what appears to be a lion in the middle. Anyone out there know where it is from???:o

I found it...and my sweetie gave it to me...he is from Tennessee and the coin is from my birthplace New York !! More special to me now than ever !!
