This lovely copper coin is clearly a quadrans. The OBV is ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TRP XII, r. facing bust of the Emperor. The Rx is COS IIII and has a naked male figure facing left and holding a patera and cornucopiae (I think). It could be either Genius or Bonvs Eventvs. Sear does not list this type for Antoninus Pius and I cannot find it elsewhere either. Can you help?

Hello Peter!
I think this is a so called "base metal" variety of denarius of Antoninus Pius CC ID 2006 (http://coinscatalog.com/coin_view.php?id_catalog_int=40612006) (just click the link). Note that the typical for the AE coinage "SC" is not part of the reverse legend. I am not sure what the TRIBUNICIUM number at the end of the obverse legend is. It can be XI, XII, XIII, XIIII, XVI or XXI but it looks to me as XII.
Have a great day!
Vl.

I am sure you are correct on this. My other thought is that it IS a denarius (it is 19mm and 1.8g) and that it is very tarnished. Against this, however, is that the gouge over the head is truly base metal and it is deeper than the patina. The Tribunicium number IS XII. Did they make these sorts of denarii of base metal? All the best. Peter
